The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a
timeless book for the likes of many. It is about a rich and powerful man called Jay Gatsby. He throws amazing parties and all are invited in the hopes that Daisy, a woman who he had loved long ago, might find him again. There are so many rumors about Gatsby's life, nearly none of which are actually true. Some of the stories, like that he is from a wealthy family and that they are all dead, were started by Jay himself, while others, like that he killed a man, were started by party goers. Nick is the narrator of the story. He is Gatsby's neighbor, Daisy's cousin, and a friend of Tom Buchanan's, who is Daisy's husband. Nick helps Jay win Daisy back, and for a moment he does. All this time he has been chasing the past. He had always believed that she always loved him and would never stop, but also that she never loved Tom, which is a lie. Daisy did love Tom, and chose him rather than Jay. Gatsby was a very lonely man, all the people at his parties didn't take up the space Daisy had vacated, but that space grows smaller when Daisy starts spending time with Jay. In the end, though, Daisy doesn't call. The rumor that Jay Gatsby killed a man becomes more than just a rumor, and Jay is killed when it wasn't even his fault.
